Most athletes only send emails and hope for a response—but one of the most effective (and overlooked) strategies is walking directly into the athletic office and asking a coach to watch your film.
In this video, I coach a high school athlete on how to do exactly that—and how you can use the same strategy to stand out and earn a scholarship.
One story I share is about a player who walked into a college with a box of donuts for the staff, politely asked if a coach could watch just one minute of his film, and had his iPad ready to hit play. That single act led to multiple coaches watching his highlight video, and eventually, an on-the-spot scholarship offer.
Another athlete used the same process but had a slower outcome—yet still walked away with a Division I offer. The lesson? Meeting in person works, but you need confidence, preparation, and persistence.
A few key takeaways:
Always have your highlight film downloaded and ready to show instantly.
Don’t ask for an offer—just ask for one minute of a coach’s time.
If a coach asks how recruiting is going, always answer with confidence: “It’s going fantastic.”
Share your opportunities, but make it clear their program is your top choice.
This method isn’t about being pushy—it’s about showing initiative and giving coaches a chance to see your dedication firsthand.
