How To Get In Contact With College Football Coaches (Consistently!)
If your son has at least a 3.0 GPA, solid varsity game film, and no real concrete offers, it could be for three reasons: coaches don’t know who he is, they haven’t watched his video, or he hasn’t developed the critical communication skills to market and sell himself properly. Once he develops these skills and gets a few small wins under his belt, he'll gain unshakable confidence, leading to conviction and ultimately offers.
In this blog post, I’ll share exactly what to say to get in contact with college coaches and, more importantly, how to develop the skills throughout the entire sales process to lead to actual offers. This is the method that helps 83% of my VIP mentorship clients earn college football scholarships. This process isn’t for those looking for a simple hack or a quick scholarship; it's for those who want to be elite and not settle for less, as building relationships with coaches and earning a scholarship in the new NIL portal era requires dedication.
The Importance of Using All Methods
Which method is best? The answer is to use all of them. The first step is determining who the area coach is, ensuring you’re pitching the right person. This process takes little skill but requires effort. You can find coaches' contact info from their website for free or use our continually updated list of 10,000 coaches. Customize your initial messages by mentioning something unique from the coach's bio to avoid seeming like an email blast. Responses will come if these steps are followed correctly.
Developing a Marketing System
Once you identify the area coach, here's the fun part: the sales and marketing process. To succeed, ensure you’re targeting the right schools with a good highlight video optimized for conversions. Your video should make coaches want to meet or see more of you within the first 45-60 seconds. Consistently update this video to improve it.
Next is social media consistency. Engage with coaches by commenting, liking, DMing, and posting consistently. Most people use Twitter, but LinkedIn is also crucial as many coaches use it to find jobs. Building an ongoing marketing system helps coaches follow and engage with you, both online and offline.
The Sales Process
Here’s the step-by-step sales process:
Find the area coach – pure effort.
Get the coach to watch your video.
Get the coach on a call.
Secure an invitation for a visit.
Earn an offer.
To improve your skills at each stage, analyze where you fall short: if coaches aren’t watching your videos, refine your pitch; if they aren’t getting on calls, improve your call to action or follow-up process. Focus consistently on the next actionable step.
Accountability and Improvement Protocol
Our Next Clip Accountability Protocol for VIP athletes ensures constant improvement. Each week:
Celebrate wins to build on them and start positive.
Review and discuss the previous week’s play for accountability.
Analyze KPIs (key performance indicators) – work with facts to coach properly.
Determine the next play – the next focus point for improvement.
This process refocuses and motivates athletes to continuously improve, develop confidence, and ultimately succeed.
